Modesto 11, Lake Elsinore 0Game 37 of 140 at Modesto The end of the homestand means I have to clean out my notebook, so bear with me here. GAME IN A GRAF – Aneury Rodriguez pitched a complete-game one-hitter _ the first nine-inning shutout by a California League pitcher this season _ and got ample offensive support. Rodriguez needed only 107 pitches to dispatch the Storm, walking two and striking out six. The lone hit was a bloop double to right-center with two outs in the sixth by Robert Perry, which fell only because Nuts’ center fielder Anthony Jackson was shading the left-handed hitter about seven steps toward left. Jackson and Michael McKenry had two doubles apiece,s regime of terror fall, while Matt Repec got the Nuts going with his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the third. SATURDAY, REVISITED – I couldn’t let the magic that was Saturday night go by without another mention. For those of you who haven’t had the chance to visit John Thurman Field, consider that it has a listed capacity of 4,000, which is the magic number for a game to be called a sellout, and probably has seating for close to 4,200.On top of that, there are picnic areas with tables and additional patio chair seating down both foul lines. For Modesto to draw 4,853 for a game means all of the seating and picnic areas were full, and that’s the way it looked from my press box vantage point. After consulting with the Modesto Nuts’ front office, all of us agreed that Saturday’s crowd should be considered the all-time record for Modesto. The reason for the discussion was a game during the 2001 or 2002 season (there is no record of the date we could find) in which general manager John Katz staged a very successful doubleheader. In the afternoon, Thurman Field hosted a high school all-star game, chaussures guess, which drew about 1,500 paying fans. Each one of those fans, as part of the admission, received a general admission ticket to that night’s Modesto A’s game. There were probably close to 3,The late Willie Hamilton,900 fans in the stands for the California League game that night, a great turnout, but Katz was able to count the unused distributed paid tickets from the afternoon game in the night’s crowd count, and reported a number in the neighborhood of 5,100 to the league office. But Saturday’s game clearly had the largest crowd I’ve ever seen at John Thurman Field since its expansion prior to the 1997 season, and I’ve missed only 14 home games in these 12 seasons.By the way, Sunday’s intimate-by-comparison gathering of 955, pushed the Nuts’ season attendance to 49,968 after 20 dates. The Nuts fell 32 fans short of reaching 50,000 in attendance through the first 20 dates for the first time in team history.Sellout crowds are becoming more and more frequent as the years go on. You can credit the promotional efforts of the front office, you can credit the ever-growing Modesto-area population, burberry sac, and this year you can credit gas prices, since it’s at least a half-tank to do the round-trip to Oakland or San Francisco. In the last five seasons, there have been 16 sellouts of John Thurman Field. Here are the 10 largest crowds during that time. Eight of the 10 games on this list were followed by fireworks displays, including three Independence Day shows. 1. 4,853…Saturday2. 4,589…April 5, 2007 (Opening night)3. 4,571…May 21, 20044. 4,492…Aug. 17, 20075. 4,478…July 4, 20076. 4,389…May 30, 20067. 4,379…April 26, 20088. 4,375…July 4,So....lookig for a job, 20049. 4,319…June 12, 200410.4,318… July 3, 2006 PINK,nike shox, REVISITED – Following Saturday’s three-hit performance, which featured his first home run of the season, outfielder Anthony Jackson said he might continue to wear the pink sanitary socks he sported Saturday night as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Night. But not to be outdone, nike shox, Jay Cox singled, doubled, tripled, and flew out to the warning track in left field in his four plate appearances, all while swinging a pink bat.“I’m definitely hitting with the pink bat for another couple days,We give thanks to all the trees around the world, for sure,as a nation and as a part ofone human race,” said Cox, who wasn’t in the lineup on Sunday. “The cycle would be nice, but I’m just glad to be putting the ball in play right now. I’m trying to take little baby steps right now. The pitchers in this league have my number. They pitch me in, and they pitch me out, and they change speeds on me well. I’ve gone up there trying to do too much. (Hitting coach) Duane Espy has been beating me in the head and told me to relax and let my swing work for me.” TONIGHT -- Modesto at San Jose, 7:05 p.m. Modesto knuckleballer Simon Ferrer (1-6, 5.88) goes for Modesto against San Jose lefty Ben Snyder (4-0,chaussure timberland, 0.85).
