The average April 2009 temperatureof the United Stateswas51.2 (0.8degrees below the 20th Century average)according to NOAA's National Climatic Data Center. Most states reported near-average temperatures: only the Northeastern States experienced statistically significant above-average temperatures and only the Northern Plains States experienced statistically significant below-average temperatures. North Carolina experienced its 68th warmest April in the last 115 years - very average indeed.
